Why have you chosen an active lifestyle? I can use all the help I can get keeping my medical problems under control. Plus, I'd like to lose some weight.
What are some of the more challenging obstacles for you to overcome in terms of activity and exercise? I have exercise, chemical, and cold induced asthma; as well as SAD (Seasonal Affectiveness Disorder) and major clinical depression. There are some times that I just have to take a day off because I flat out can't breath well enough to do much, or can't get my energy up that day and what have you. It can be very painful, humiliating, and frustrating. >_<
What do you hope to gain from this community? Some extra motivation to get out everyday and keep at it even during winter (aka the majority of the year here!)
What are your personal goals for this challenge? I would like to get in the habit of exercising five times a week.
What do you hope to improve? What kind of results are you hoping to see, mental/physical? Regular exercise will probably help my mood and energy level during the wintertime. Losing weight will also help me feel better (emotionally and physically) and not get sick so often. Eventually, my lungs probably won't be so susceptable to difficulty as their capacity expands and get more used to heavy exercise.
What are you favorite forms of exercise? Weight training, walking, biking, dancing, and swimming.
Do you workout at a gym? If so which one? Would you recommend it? Sometimes I do when school is in session. I use the Patty Center and the Gym at UAF (The University of Alaska, Fairbanks) since I'm a student there.
If you do a video workout or follow a particular practice, which one(s)? Not really. I'm interested in mudras (relaxation, strengthening, and healing techniques using hand gestures and controlled breathing) and know a little Tai Chi, but I don't do them regularly. To be honest, I'd love to get a Richard Simmons tape sometime, he just seems so into it. =D
Which videos/DVDs would you recommend? Mudra: Gestures of Power by Sabrina Mesko.
This is such a great video, it's too bad that it hasn't been released on DVD, too. You notice a difference even the first time you try it and the instructions are very thorough and easy to follow.
What are your favorite leisure activities? Lots of arts & crafts (cross-stitch, embroidery, mosaics, decopauge, collage, sewing, quilting, seed beading, polymer clay sculpture, etc.) and video games. I also like to send and receive letters and postcards, learning languages, taking photos, and watching horror movies and foreign films.
What are some of your other interests, hobbies, styles, themes, favorite characters, etc... Most of my hobbies are listed above; but I like wacky, cutesy, and macabre things, and classic paintings. (My favourite painting is The Birth of Venus.) Some of my favorite artists and characters are Edward Gorey, Tim Burton, David Mack, Wendy Pini, Hello Kitty, Hamtaro, Kogepan, Domokun, Doraemon, Ai Yazawa, and Yuu Watase.
